Picked up a case of this in half bottles from Halfwitwines.com for a whopping $36.00! I thought perhaps it was over the hill but this seems to have plenty of life in it.
Pours a deep golden color with aromas of Honey, wool and tobacco. On the palate this bursts with Honied Apricot flavors and a subtle hint of ginger before seemlessly transitioning to more earthy flavors of mushrooms and herbs in the middle. This wine finishes on a subtle honey and floral note which lasts for a suprisingly long time. Some Botrytis here but clearly not a SGN.
This wine seemed light and rather unsubstantial upon opening but really gained depth and weight as the wine breathed. Plenty of acidity kept the wine from being too heavy. Really a very easy drinking wine. Not the most interesting CdL I have had, not by a long shot, but really outstanding for the money. Clearly a mark down. I wish I knew what the going rate for this wine is.
I drink very little dessert wine but I have a cellar full of Loire valley dessert wines because I keep finding mark downs like this. I have a half of case of highly rated Champalou Cuvee CC which I purchased for $15.00 a bottle! I don’t understand why these wines aren’t finding a larger market. Stunning complexity for their modest tarrifs and easier to drink then overly heavy Sauternes for my palate.
