With a friend tonight we had a little Dauvissat comparison:
2010 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Sechet 1er Cru
Ripeness and concentration exudes out of the glass. Extremely expressive on the nose with sea spray, fresh apple/pear and citrus zest on the nose. The palate is relatively full bodied for Chablis and even more so in context of the '04. It is balanced gracefully on the palate with high acid teetering it all on a knives edge. Even at this “lowly” level for Dauvissat this wine is a statement, albeit one of promise and great things to come.
2004 Domaine Dauvissat-Camus Chablis La Forest 1er Cru
A nice juxtaposition. Where above was delicious with lots of promise, this was deliciousness delivered. Development contrasts the youthful exuberance of above - though the fruit remains quite crunchy and lean with ample saline/oyster notes. It takes on a blanched almond or almost hazelnut character on the palate, the acid showed lower in the balance of the wine then the '10 and today at least this was the better in show. Years to come the '10 may or will outshine it, but sometimes even a slight bit of bottle age can supplant something so delicious as the Sechet.
Both worth seeking out and drinking, a '10 Dauvissat Pruesses a few weeks ago was all promise with amazing things to come. Sacrificed well to young, but another one to hunt for.
