TN: Damn it, Leflaive.

Anyone know why Morey left?

Wondering if it had to do with the change of wine-making approach.

So how come Morey’s wines are pretty average? I assume his line is the Domaine Morey Blancs. Just vine age and vineyard work (historic) not as good?

Well put

Sad. As we all know, the company we share wine with has so much to do with the the overall joy of an occasion. And, there is an underlying positive here in that most of us also delight in sharing the treasures of our cellar with others regardless of how well the wine shows. It`s the intent that stands out.

Drinking my 2012s up.

I bought 2 X 2014 P-M Clavoillon and opened one recently.

First observation is the the diameter corks are in there tight. Seems slightly oversized.
Two, the wine was on form - pure, balanced and had that nice 2014 acidity. Perhaps not quite the height of years ago but very, very good.

My biggest problem remains the cost vs risk. These btls were offered at a good price on pre-sale so bit to drink short-term, but won’t risk the other btl more than another year or two.

I only have one other btl of Leflaive left in my cellar (2010 P-M Pucelles) and will drink that soon as well after a recent 2010 Macon-Verze was 'moxed.

It’s a shame what happened has here.

88 PM Montrachet is an electrifying wine. He also doesn’t own a lot of the grapes which might be part of the issue, in youth the wines are not exciting at all

I agree with Robert, I think premox here isn’t linked to Pierre - it happened earlier.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what Pierre Vincent can do - for me the best Leflaive wines in Puligny for the last 2-3 vintages have come from Olivier - though unlike Russell, I’m taking my life in my hands and am trusting the great casino in the sky over my 2012 Pucelles magnums…

Agreed, appreciated it, and can certainly concur/relate wrt 2004 Clavoillions, totally reductive the 2 or 3 times I tried it.

Quixotically or not, at least from what I’ve had, Olivier Leflaive’s whites have been extremely enjoyable, sometimes ascending to greatness and I don’t believe I’ve had a single case of pox from him—lucky, maybe? I’ve been there twice and given what I’ve seen of the operation, I’m less inclined to think it’s been luck…

Mahalo nui loa
