Yep, found a few of these in the cases destined for today’s blow-out sale. So, I marked them down from $80 to $35 and bought one for myself!
Besides its glossy, polished body, this wine lays out each of its components in a complex weave of deliciousness (yes, I just made up that word). Its aromas of bramble bush berries, Eastern spices, and espresso bean are replicated in the body. Also found in the long finish are hints of the char off the barrels and cardamom.
Think of this wine like a Liger (half tiger, half lion): it is some weird hybrid of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but uniquely Spanish.
Fun stuff!
Day 2:
Even more polished and gleaming, this wine has evened out its spicy edges and become more elegant. The nose is brighter and showing a bit more alcohol than I would like, but the body itself is sumptuous.
Definitely more “Burgundy” today than yesterday with supple red cherry and cassis flavors. Fine stuff for the $35 I paid, but not an $80 bottle.
