TN: Chappelet 2005 Cab

Recently bought some of the 2006, so I decided to check in on the 2005.

Popped and poured. Lots of dark fruit, mostly blackberry and dark cherries. Good wall of structure underlying the fruit. A bit thin on the midpalate, but a nice long finish.

A really good wine. That being said, I always take $ into consideration when thinking about the quality. I paid a bit under $40 for these and it is worth that price. If I had paid the $50 retail, I might be a bit disappointed, as I think it does not measure up to Larkmead and a few others at that price point.

Bruce, thanks for the note.
I agree with your opinion of Chappelet.

Bruce,
So this is not the Mountain Cuvee, but the Signature Cab?

Yes this was the signature Cab.

I do have a few bottles of the Mountain Cuvee from the same year, but have not opened one yet. I thought the 04 was a good value at about $25, so I bought a few 05s at a few dollars less.

Mountain Cuvee is one of the BEST values from the Valley…at around $20-25/btl, great juice!

Gotta agree there Dan. I kind of like Chateau Souverain also. Thes are good cellar defenders.
