Our 2nd young Chambolle in two nights and this wine is pretty damn good! Maybe 2007 is not considered a top vintage, but this bottle was superior to a Roumier 2008 Villages Cambolle opened last night. Not surprising as this is a 1er Cru vineyard that usually produces quality wines. That this 1er Cru is priced less than the Roumier is the nail in the coffin when comparing these two wines. Mugneret by more than a few lengths!
The color is medium ruby red, a bit darker than the Roumier. On the nose this has some real intensity of berry fruit, tons of minerality, a touch of licorice and a bit of earthiness. The palate is moderately rich, with intense red berry flavors, some minerals, good acidity, and a very nice finish.
I would like to see this wine in 5 to 7 years, but there is no harm in drinking it now as it is just a very nicely balanced wine. Good stuff!!
