Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 2012 Domaine Hudelot-Baillet
Starts out with very plush, plump red fruit and a touch of leafy evolution. Plenty of spice and the fruit purity of the HB house style. Sweet and satisfying but takes time in the glass to coalese, for the fruit to recede a little and let the underlying bone structure show through. At this point, acidity picks out the detail and a fine web of silky tannins gives it shape. Starts to show the Cras spine and minerality and a more classical and floral Chambolle perfume. Briary hedgerow notes start to develop and almost a hint of mint and rose hip. Long and pretty but always in a more succulent than focused idiom.

I’m increasingly a fan of 2012 and this bodes well for those in my cellar. As a side thing, I thought I’d use this lock down to try and get a bit more disciplined about writing up the wines I open and taste at home - how dull and geeky is that?!
