TN: Ch. Pape Clement 2004

Ch. Pape Clement 2004:
This is a very excellent wine that is performing much better now than it ever has. Complex aromas of blackberries, cherries, pencil lead and violets emerge from the glass as smoke and black plums play in background. The smokiness continues on the palate, as does the excellent fruit content, though now with perhaps a touch of currant as well. Some damp earth and camphor is tossed in at the end for good measure- overall this is a fantastic success. And truly and wine I want to drink over and over again. Regal and sexy . . . if you have missed out on '04- well then you have missed out. 93+ points

And I have been super busy with a number of things, including but not limited to, a tasting last night. So I will get back to everyone about the list I posted on CC.

Thanks for the note - I’m beginning to wonder if 2004 Bordeaux is shaping up a little bit like 2001, with some good sleepers at “reasonable” prices.

I posted on several '04 Pessac Léognans a few weeks ago, the Pape Clement among them. Here’s the link for whatever it’s worth:

Had the '03 Pape last night…bested a decent field of three other '03 BDX and an '03 Spottswoode. Will post full notes later.
