Tried the w/ company on Sat:
- Carlisle PelkanRanch/KnightsVlly Syrah (15.9%; 110 cs) Santa Rosa 2003: Very dark color w/ no bricking; strong ripe/blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah slight peppery/graphite slight alcoholic bit herbal/pungent/perfumed nose w/ little evolution evident & still pretty primary; soft intense blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/Syrah bit toasty/pencilly/oak slight earthy/graphite/pungent flavor w/ modest hard/angular tannins; very long intense blackberry/boysenberry/Syrah/spicy/ripe slight peppery/licorice light toasty/pencilly/oak slight tangy/metallic finish w/ modest bitey tannins; a bit of alcohol on the nose but not obvious on the palate & not overripe/jammy/over-the-top; not showing much secondary evolution and maybe drying out a bit; developing at a glacial pace; still a big/powerful Syrah that impresses w/ its power. $38.00
A wee BloodyPulpit:
First tasted this in Dec’05:
This seems to be one of those wines that survives and lasts, but never really shows much evolution. Usually the alcohol starts to become more obtrusive but that not the case here. Not at all sure where this wine will go in 10-15 yrs, but would guess the fruit w/ still be there and the tannins become more obvious and may never resolve.
