Bruno Giacosa Barolo 2000:
Just the basic Barolo, to go along with a fairly basic meal at home, but the wine turned out better than I expected. A surprisingly vibrant nose of yellow plums, earthy/dirty flavors and smoke. The wine was medium bodied, dominated by sweet red fruits, and, for framing dabs of flowers, tar and eucalyptus. Like I said, it was better than I expected- better length, better depth, but nowhere near a blockbuster, just a nice wine. Will drink more, but I imagine soon this wine will hit some kind of ceiling. 90 points
I agree with your note. I thought this a bit disappointing since I think the basic Barolo is usually a bit better from Bruno. I am sure Max is right that it will get better but this was not one of his better efforts even for the basic.
The 2000 Barolo has been a great restaurant wine for about a C note at a local joint. Accessible and enjoyable from from opening/decanting and liked by different palates.
