I admit it. I bought a box of wine the other day. In theory, the intent was to cook with it (quite handy) - but the reality is, I’ve gone back to it 3-5 times since the meal and, shit, I kinda like it.
About 2 years ago I started to see my palate change to more French, or, perhaps, less fruity syrup crap and more structure and less alcohol.
Well, dammit. This wine certainly doesn’t suck. And, frankly for the $19.99 i spent for the 4 bottles equiv., it’s certainly not bad.
Round mouthfeel
Good structure
Dense dark fruits
Good finish, lingering in a pleasant way
Nose of cedar, crushed berries and some flower I can’t pinpoint - lavender?
sonofabitch - 86 points? If those matter or my palate points mean anything.
Here’s the key -would I buy it again? Yeah, I would.
Now, am I intrigued enough by this wine to see what BB’s chard, merlot and cab are like - sadly, yes I am.
One downfall - as the wine is in the icebox, when you pour your evening glass, it’s damn cold - so first pour to actual enjoyment (say 55 degrees) - can take a while.
Maybe one of the reasons it tastes so nice is because they couldn’t afford to oak it [at that price point] and what you are tasting is pure wine [unsullied by the presence of oak]?
