From Bradley Brown, who’s enterprise lies way up in yonder hills.
13.9% alcohol. IIRC, the Mandala comes from estate fruit vines that is somewhat younger than that used for Bradley’s signature “Rattlesnake Rock” cuvee.
Medium cherry ruby red. Ripe cherries and spice enliven an expressive, intriguing nose. Black cherries, cinnamon and pepper on the palate. Moderate tannins. Great purity, well balanced, lingering aftertaste.
I went into the Big Basin straight from an excellent Copain syrah. Was surprised that the Big Basin was, if anything, better balanced and more refined. Had the great syrah concentration and intensity that you would expect from Big Basin. This is a wonderful property on a steep ascent IMO.
Thanks, Mike. The Mandala is one of my favorite CA Syrahs. Bradley is definitely on to something at his property, but it’s the balance he achieves in the wines that is special. Unique and memorable wines. So many excellent wines are coming out of these mountains. Must be nice to be a neighbor!
