BELTRAMO’S 2006 BORDEAUX - (9/13/2009)
A nice collection of mid-level Bordeaux. Wines show decent quality, but from this small sample it doesn’t appear that 06 can hold a candle to 05. Makes you really wonder what they were thinking when setting prices, even in a good economic climate, clearly the proft factor was in play here, as opposed to any linkage to real quality. The wines remind me a bit of 04 at this stage, though with maybe a touch more concentration and depth.

2006 Château Haut-Bailly - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. This has a nice crushed berry nose, with some rocky mineral; deep, dark fruit, a bit more lush than most of the other wines, medium tannins, good finish. My favorite of the bunch, which included Barton, Ducru, Lynch, Baron, Pontet. (92 pts.) -
2006 Château Léoville Barton - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. bit of vanilla on the nose, nice medium depth, medium tannins, decent wine but not showing much distinction. (90 pts.) -
2006 Château Léoville Poyferré - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. medium body, decent fruit, fairly high acid. As usual, a more feminine wine, but lacks much interest or complexity. (88 pts.) -
2006 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. Some vanilla on the nose, decent fruit, higher acid, moderate tannins. This is pretty disappointing for a wine of this stature, missing something both in concentration and balance. (87 pts.) -
2006 Château Lynch-Bages - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. Not showing much on the nose, good depth of dark fruit, excellent structure and balance. Nice wine, and a good showing for Lynch relative to other vintages since 2000. (92 pts.) -
2006 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. Good depth, quite tannic, very structured wine, OK finish. Difficult to taste right now, not sure if the fruit depth will outlast the structure over the long haul. (89 pts.) -
2006 Château Pontet-Canet - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. Nice medium depth, fairly structured wine, good concentration, sold effort. (91 pts.) -
2006 Vieux Château Certan - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Beltramo’s 06 Bordeaux tasting. Good medium depth, a bit out of place with all the Cab based wine in this group, showing more bright, sweet red merlot fruit. Decent wine, but price is absurd for what’s in the bottle. (91 pts.)
