My wife’s new boss is a wino, and we had been meaning to have him over for a requested ‘light’ dinner. After some reschedules we celebrated Bastille day a bit late. First course was a black cod, seared super crispy on the skin side and then finished in the oven) served over a bit of pureed sweet corn with some sauteed sweet corn on top. A Meursault would have been a better match than the flinty (and delish) Leflaive.
Main course was a Nicoise salad with seared tuna. I had been meaning to try the Jamet to see why Parker thinks it is mediocre (WTF, the man is insane, it is showing fantastically now). A surprisingly good match with the tuna and salad despite the vinaigrette.
A perfect late meal with sunset over the Olympic Mountain range.

2004 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru (7/20/2009)
Hyper-flint, lime, and slate. I just love the profile here, although I think this is sleeping pretty hard right now and is considerably less rich than it was a year ago. -
2003 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie (7/20/2009)
This is supposedly a weak vintage of Jamet. Umm, yeah, not so much. Utterly fantastic, smoke and meat and blood and acid. Fresh, powerful, textbook Cote-Rotie, perfect flavor profile. A very food friendly wine, a little tart on its own but unreal with a Nicoise salad with seared, rare tuna. Surprisingly this also held up well to a vinaigrette but was at its best with the tuna.
