Angelus 2003:
Brought this to perhaps my favorite local haunt- MF Sushi in Buckhead- last night. Chef Ito once again was helpful in pairing some excellent dishes. The last time I had this wine I felt like it did not show as well as it should have because of the other wines we drank with it. This time it really got to shine on its own. While the numerical score this time is not too much higher I really feel like this is a fantastic wine. First, here is the note from last time:
The nose is a mix of fresh and roasted fruit flavors, along with some graphite and smoke. Loads of black plum, ripe black currant, chocolate and burnt toast shine from the beginning. As secondary characteristics emerge the wine really begins to strut. There are notes of tar, bramble, tobacco, black cherry and Oolong tea. The wine has excellent length and some really nice acidity that was very helpful with food pairing. Drink this over the next fifteen years for sure. 94+ points
