TN and diner review from last night (10th anniversary)

Diner at Jean Georges in NYC - in a word AWESOME

I had:

Eggs and caviar to start - awesome better than expected
shrimp in a herbal infusion and lime sauce with mushrooms - very good
Duck with cracked jordan almonds and an amaretto jus – this was a top five course of my life simply amazing

Wife:

Foie Gras with a strawberry sauce on a brulee - very good
halibut in an aromatic spice broth - awesome fish as perfect sauce was amazing I was dipping bread in it
Tenderloin - great piece of meat but totally overshadowed by the duck

split of NV Pol Roger to start- nice citrus and yeast flavor

1976 Penfolds Grange!!! pristine bottle, cork was perfect

HUGE menthol on the nose, somm guessed 16% but it blew off and we check its mid 13
amazing tobacco flavor. dark fruit, big cassis finish, violets or maybe rose.

all in all I think a perfect representation of what a 34 year old Grange should taste like, top 5 bottle in my life.

I don’t think it was hiding anything and was certainly in its prime, do I think it will last another 10 years YES but I cant see it getting any better.

Happy Anniversary, sounds like things went excellent on all levels!

Happy Anniversary, Drew and Mrs. Drew!

I’ve yet to get to sample some Grange - particularly interested in vintage Grange, as it sounds wonderful!

I have only had '76 Grange a few times (birth year wine) and each time it has been fantastic.

Life is tough [snort.gif]
Sounds like a nice night Drew.

Thanks all

the corkage fee hurt but after looking at the AMAZING list and the markup’s I am so glad I did it.

Perfect night especially since my mom had the 2 kids!

this is the 3rd time I have had the 76 but this bottle was in better condition than the others and tasted better. The other 2 were awesome as well but I don’t have any formal notes.

I know, right.
