Closest to Gentaz is Rostaing s Cote brune !
Maybe in vineyard holdings but hardly in greatness.
Groan award bestowed.
Ballahâwines and participants both. But super write-up, Charlie and thanks for your excellent additional thoughts, Matthew.
Of the list, I think Iâve only had the 08 ChaveâRichard and Alan will remember that one from last yearâs SF dinner:
âSuper-perfumed, I get cranberry and even roses. No surprise that my mouth likes this, and there is great, driving purity, but it presents to me as so fruit-centric, with bright berries galore. The other subtle notes that sometimes set Chave apartâtheyâre not showing yet. I think they will, in time. I do like it, for sure.â
My 2 recent-ish Jamets have been a 01 and 08 regular cuvee. Both were outstanding.

Wow, that Jamet CB and Dolium for shits and giggles. Both will be epic wines at maturity. Great stuff LA crew.
I doubt that you have tasted the last vintages of Cote brune Rostaing, made by Pierre R.
I had the 2008 Allemand Reynard almost exactly one year ago, and Iâd have a hard time picturing a Northern Rhone being any more shut down than that was. Did you feel it was open? What kind of air time did it get?
3hr decant then back in the bottle and consumed about 2 hours later
That probably helped. Had mine off a restaurant list. Popped, decanted and drank over the subsequent 2 - 3 hours or so, and it opened a bit but never truly felt open.
Had a 2007 Reynard last night and it was completely shut down. Totally coiled up. Even after about 5 hrs of air, couldnât get through it all. Pity, but it tells me these can go the distance, which isnât necessarily a bad thing.
I guess itâs rounding down to the the nearest year?
@ToddFrench is WB connected to a wormhole again?
I think the system means â1 year ishâ
