I have to say that I am generally not the greatest beaujolais/brouilly fan, but every so often I get the chance to try a couple bottles and I am pleasantly surprised, more often than not.
Cherry, pepper and a touch of burnt matches on the nose. Interesting in that I’ve generally only gotten that sulphur nose from white burgs, but there’s definitely a hint here.
Crunchy red fruit on the palate - the finish is taut and has plenty of acidity, its very refreshing on a cool summer’s evening with a pepperoni pizza as we wait for the power to come back on after an afternoon thunderstorm.
This bottling is also designated “Prestige,” is it not?
If so, it also ages well - I have them going back to the late '90’s in my cellar. The vines this wine comes from are over 90 years old.
Best, Jim
Brouilly is one of my favorite communes in Beaujolais - my experience is mostly with Thivin and Chanrion. I don’t think I’ve seen Michaud - who is the importer?
