TN: A white Saumur for all you Loire-heads!

TN: `02 Saumur Domaine Langlois-Chateau VV.

Cellared for 3 yrs, 100% Chenin Blanc, good natural cork, 14% alc, $25 Cdn.

The nose is racy, has some mineral tones, citrus. No sheeps wool! Color is a beautiful pale gold, just glistens.
Apple, spice on the entry, great acidity, unripe white store-fruit. “Hint of that Weston family marmalade on the finish” from across the table. Tremendous structure here and a very good wine!
The staff at DeVines finished off the bottle next day and were equally impressed.

My post on this white Saumur gathered quite a healthy response on 2 other forums. Please tell me why no apparent interest here?

I don’t think the whites of Saumur have a huge following. I know that Indifference is how I greet most of them. I have found them to be generally bland and lacking in personality. However, I think I may have come to that decision a bit too hastily. I am 3 for 3 with them in the last month. I especially enjoyed a sparkler from Domaine des Roches Nueves called Bulles de Roche. If you like that sort of thing, I highly recommend seeking it out. Ripe pineapple fruit with obvious and intriguinmg mineral notes of chalk and rock. Not a terribly yeasty sparkler but thats what I liked about it. It was all about the Chenin fruit and wouldn’t ever be mistaken for, or compared to, Champagne.

I will keep my eyes peeled for this wine. Always like to try new Chenins. I just wish they were easier to find.

Bob, I think I had this wine before now that I think about it. Does it have a picture of a windmill on it? The bottle was impossibly corked if this is the wine I am thinking of.
