TN: A Red/White/Dessert.....(short/boring)

Tried these three over the last few days:

  1. Prieler St.Laurent Burgenland/Austria (12.0%; www.Prieler.At; SkurnikWines/NY/NY) Weingut Prieler/Gebirge 2019: Verydark color; very strong plummy/ripe/bit PN-like classic St.Laurent light earthy/loamy some floral/licorice/bit chocolaty lovely/intense nose; lightly tart very full/rich/lush very strong plummy/St.Laurent/floral/chocoalty some earthy/loamy slight toasty/oak lovely flavor w/ modest chewey tannins; very long/lingering very rich/lush St.Laurent finish w/ light chewey tannins; a pretty big StL more like a Zweigelt than a PN/StLaurent that most show; a delicious Burgenland red. $34.00 (SFW&S)

  1. Naranjito Somos Verdelho McLarenVale/SouthAustralia (12.9%; natural wine; 180 days skin contact; U/U; VineStreetImprts/MtLaurel/NJ) JugueteWines/Tanunda/SA 2021: Rather bronze/orange slight browning rather cloudy color w/ loads of flocculant sediment; fairly strong skin-contact/phenolic/resinous bit orangey/graham cracker slight stoney/floral/Verdelho somewhat complex nose; fairly tart/tangy/bit metallic fairly rich/lush some phenolic/resinous/skin-contact light floral/Verdelho some orangey interesting flavor w/ light tannic bite; fairly long phenolic/skin-contact finish that tracks flavor; totally clean w/ no natty character; not intensely phenolic & a fair amount of Verdelho fruit; leaning just a bit towards the bland side for an orange wine; much better than I expected; should be much more interesting in 2-5 yrs. $24.00 (AV)

  1. Lucchetti Dd’OC: LaCrima di Morro d’Alba Passito (15%; AdmiraltyBeverage/Portland/OR 2009: Very dark/near black color; rather alcoholic very intense plummy/black cherry/licorice quite chocolaty big lush fruit bit late harvesty rather complex bit port-like quite interesting/lovely nose; soft quite sweet very rich/lush quite chocolaty/licorice/black cherry very passito/ripe quite intense grapey flavor w/ some very ripe/soft tannins; very long/lingering chocolaty finish w/ modest very ripe tannins; some like a ruby Port but w/o the harsh/burning higher alcohols; a lovely intense passito red but not at all raisened/pruney/late harvesty; a lovely expression of passito LaCrima.

More knickersot from TheBloodyPulpit:

  1. The Verdelho I had very low expectations for because of its cutsey label, a natural wine, and considerable skin contact. I expected a quite austere/tannic wine. It was, in fact, much better than I expected. A nice balance of Verdelho fruit & skin-contact character. Not a barn-burner, but exceeds expectations.
