Wine is revealed below, but this one surprised me.
“On the nose: bright red fruits, with some earthiness and aromatic baking spice then a hint of oak elements at the backend. Medium bodied in the mouth, with mild, but mouth coating tannins with a good, juicy bite of acidity. Very pleasant.”
Almost reads like a mediumweight CA pinot or a villages level Burgundy doesn’t it? I thought so, but it turned out to be …
2007 Ortas CdR “Reserve” (Cave de Rasteau).
It’s cheap at $9.99 (@ Weimax, Burlingame, CA). A definite QPR at that price point. It’s mostly Grenache, but didn’t have the telltale traits of a “damp brush (plant)” or the rustic woody quality. I would rather drink this than your basic $20 entry-level pinot/Burgundy wine these days.
