TN: A Barbera to take seriously ...

I have had an excellent one for $32 though. Idlewild.

I had a 2009 G. Mascarello Barbera d’Alba Superiore Codamonte a few months back and it was awesome. Really showed how good Barbera can be. Really interesting wine, but the price was a little tough to swallow.

JJBuckley just offered the Vietti VV Scarrone '12 for $41.

Great note!

It was one of the best kind: one that makes me want to go shopping!

I am in California and feel the same way. Good Italian Barbera for a descent price is hard to come by. Even California Barbera is scarce. I have bought some from small wineries such as Vista Del Rey in Paso, Tres Hermanas in Santa Ynez. My daughter picked up some Barbera on a trip to wine country in Mexico BC. I can’t compare it to Italy in terms of price and quality but it’s accessible and I enjoy drinking it and like to support local wine biz. I also hear there is a lot of Barbera coming out of Amador County but have not had any.

I recently ordered two bottles of Sebastiani Barbera (85% from Bedrock Vineyard) for $25/btl.

Brown, I actually enjoyed the Montevina Amador Barbera in the mid-2000’s, especially at about $10/btl

Drew, not to break your balls, but the Vietti Barbera that was recommended to you back when you originally posted your thread/question was the Tre Vigne, which goes for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15. Of course it’s possible to find a more expensive Barbera in Italy - Vietti Scarrone may be the most expensive in that regard, and Giacomo Bologna’s wines (and Conterno’s Barbera, for that matter) are also more expensive than your typical Sonoma version, but the vast majority of Italian Barbera will be cheaper than anything you can find worth drinking in California.
