TN - '99 Arnoux Vosne Romanee Suchots

Wow, this resolved beauty is really drinking well at the moment.

'99 Arnoux Vosne Romanee Suchots-
The kaleidoscopically spicy Vosne nose is so mesmerizing! IMO, there is just the right amount of maturing fruit and sous bois to consider this “a point” for drinking now. The sweetening fruit is perfectly balanced and saturated with complex Asian/Moroccan spicy complexity. This is a “Wow” wine and a super value. Arnoux’s Suchots really rises above (both literally and figuratively) the other examples of this vineyards! Great stuff!

always grand cru quality and my favorite Arnoux wine–the 78 was a revelation. I agree that this is the best Suchots, but I keep reading (Tanzer) about the Grivot version, which is hard to find in the US. Thanks for the note.

Anyone had the '96 recently?

Keith,

I have a btl that I have been itching to crack open.

I did after buying a few.
The wine seems to be turning the corner. It is not dominated by the acidity at this point. The fruit is emerging and the acidity keeps it hopping.
I like it but it is not a big lush version of this wine like 1990 that I had a couple of years ago.
BTW, as an aside here, the new bottles are impossible to stack. They have a gradual taper at the neck that makes them tip over if you stack them on themselves.
FWIW.

Great note as always Kevin. I’ve never had any vintage of this but after reading your note am really looking forward to trying the '01 at a wine dinner next week. Anyone had the '01 recently?
