This was quite an impressive showing of La Grande Dame. The acidity is just off the charts here; I can literally feel the enamel being stripped from my teeth. The palate is a bold expression of lemon meringue pie, roasted chestnut, butter, and spice. Don’t rush these if you don’t have to; I still think I’m drinking this too young. 93 pts.
I adore every '95 higher-end Champagne I’ve ever had. A vintage that truly over-delivers
95 is a fantastic vintage, hidden in the shadows of all the acclaim for 96.
that’s a lovely wine, no doubt
I got a Bottle of this when it was released and brought it to Mother’s Day dinner with my mother. We both thought it was fantastic. I agree with the comment above that it is overshadowed (unfortunately) by the 1996 vintage. I remember the following year, when they were pouring the 1996 at a tasting, that I commented to the rep that I thought the 1995 was better.
Agreed.
Beautiful glass of bubbles although still quite young and driven by the acidity - I wonder if this one will ever lose the acidity before the fruit is dies?
I had the '98 a while ago and I wish I had some of that in my micro cellar. (too bad I did not keep notes)
I have a La Grande Dame Rose saved for a celebration later this year. Seems like you are having a lot of fun tastings this year.
I love the 98 LGD and fortunately have another bottle waiting to be opened. The 95 is definitely overshadowed by the 96 which is alright by me. More for us to enjoy
Does anyone have any experience with the 90; just picked up one on auction?
I had the 90 four month ago Rick and it is by far the best of the bunch - if a good bottle then it is a drop dead gorgeous champagne!!! Hope yours will be great like the one I had
I have a few 95s stashed and popped a 90 a few weeks ago. Unfortunately it was not a good bottle.
