89 Font du Loup [Chateauneuf du Pape] They seem to have a bunch of cuvees (now), but back then I think they had less. This is their basic one. Popped and poured, over two nights, at about 65F. With food - leftover Indian and Thai respectively. Very light sediment in the bottle. Cork was hard to extract, seemed not to have that slick coating on the sides. Light tile / terra cotta in color. Tawny edges, long lazy legs. Expansive, interesting bouquet of cinnamon, adhesive. Medium bodied, long 30+ second finish, palate perception of sweetness, still a smidge of tannin despite the age and varietal. No acidic verve. Ripe and round, some anise and herbs on the palate, a wonderful example of how aging rewards CNDP. I’d class this vintage/example into the traditional camp of CNDP; not sure if that’s true today though. This aged well and I’d give it an A-
Label looks like this; modern ones are snazzier
