78’ Mirassou ‘Harvest Select’ Petite Syrah- Wow, just wow. Purchased this from a local shop that has been in business forever, every now and again, the shop owner brings out older wines to sell, this was $25.
The color shows a little brown mixed with maroon at the core. The nose is relatively young with white flowers, vanilla after a few hours of air, coffee, tea, cassis, mint, almonds, blue fruits. In the mouth the wine is balanced and echos the nose with moderate + acid that melds with the vanilla, cassis, meat, game that holds on for a while as I think about the wine.
The wine was incredible for it’s age, it’s not overly complex (which complexity is not what I attribute to PS) but has more than held up and has at least 30 more years of life ahead.
