- 2023 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Sky Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (12/1/2025)
The 2022 was an absolute revelation to me and quickly became perhaps my favorite CA Zin ever, right alongside the 2018 Precedent Kirschenmann. The vibe is the same for the new '23 vintage - feels like some whole cluster inclusion on this as well, my guess as a winemaker around 30%, but I could be wrong.
Zin fruit galore up front of course - juicy and fresh, and the whole clusteredness of it all adds to support that, but also adds some green notes on the mid-palate to help it carry towards the end. Like a duet, think Delibes Flower Duet, the voices of real tannins (harder to achieve with Zins) and acid come together to carry it through at end. I can't tell if it has any oak on it, doesn't feel that way, the tannins are so beautifully present and balanced, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some subtle sneaky oak profiling to build the tannins.
The brightness and whole clusteredness of it all ensures this will carry it into the next decade, but ready for bizniz now, too. Brilliant wine. (95 points)
