Recently had the opportunity to taste the 22 Lafon BB recently at GC Selections portfolio tasting. Not only was it wonderful for it’s level, but Guillaume Lafon was pouring and @Andrew_K - I confirmed that these wines are in fact made from Domaine fruit
Thanks for the note Wil!
just saw this in an email offering…
Thierry crafts both Bourgognes in the exact same way. The Thierry Pillot bottling is made with grapes from Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, while the Paul Pillot wine is produced with a large portion of grapes from Chassagne-Montrachet. They’re classic Pillot, meaning pure and elegantly understated.
Paul Pillot has become one of my absolute favorite producers. Treads the line well between the sharper and more acidic modern style and the prior years of more opulent White Burgs. In a recent tasting of 18 different 2021 whites, including some Grand Crus, the '21 Paul Pillot Chassagne Clos St. Jean was easily the best of the bunch.
Big fan.
We hope to visit in May.
I was so into this BB that I went pretty deep on a few different bottlings. I might get crucified for this, but I think it drinks better than Coche BB. I haven’t pulled the trigger on any Clos St Jean yet, but I came across some 17 La Romanee at a pretty good price - I’m looking forward to digging in across the range.
