TN: 2021 Halcon Estate Syrah (USA, California, North Coast, Yorkville Highlands)

And $39, the garagiste blowout price, would still be slightly more expensive than what you could buy the chave clone Elevacion cuvée from Halcon v.1.

Not saying they are the same wine at all, but the two bottles would read as similar sounding to many would-be buyers. Maybe they were priced at what the market would bear the first time around.

I asked a question about Halcon on one of Pax’s IG posts and I’m pretty sure it was removed. the question was something like “what’s up with the Halcon estate?” And it disappeared

Just got a '23 release email (don’t recall '22 being released?) and they reduced the price from $80 to $70 but still not buying (esp after buying from the Garagiste offer).

Probably gonna wait until K&L swoop in at cheaper price. These gonna need a few years to be tamed and I’m in no rush to buy.

Yeah the pricing is simply too ambitious. Should probably be $45-$50 in the current market, but maybe that’s not realistic for their investment in purchasing the property.

K&L is already selling the 2021 at $50 and it’s not exactly selling through, so might need to adjust that number down even further.

Just got the '23 release email (after signing up last week) and price is now @ $60. Guess they’re noticing the lack of demand…

That’s really interesting. I wonder if there are any other examples where that has happened.

K&L listed the 2022 vintage for $70. Very interesting pricing when DTC is $60 in a better vintage.

I suspect it will be quickly marked down as an “Insiders Advantage.”

The 2021 is not moving that much at $50. I’ll swoop in at $40

$25 at club price is crazy.

I think you have to belong to their wine club to get that price?

Decided to pop one this morning and holy fuck that’s the great wall of tannin. Not touching this for the next 7 years at least.

Yup. Otherwise $70. So, it’s a crazy unexpected bonus to members of their wine club. It’s a good club for some sorts of people wanting to explore a wide range of curated wines. I was a member for a bit 3 decades ago, but ultimately preferred to steer my own ship.

Anyway, this is a smart way to move this wine without devaluing the market price.

LOL

I’m sitting on some 2018 and 2010 mags…

The good thing about Halcon, seriously, is you can leave them on the counter for a week and they won’t budge.

2011 and 2015 mags here… we have to get a solid Halcón vertical tasting together at some point. No rush though, as you said
