Decided to pop my first of these with some King Crab and college football.
First whiff, had me thinking it was a bit new oaky, but interestingly that seemed to fade a bit towards the end or maybe the richness of the crab and butter just absorbed it.
No question you can see the lineage here as no question it would fit right in with the Disenta II we had recently.
If anything it’s a bit more sharp, angular with more citrus and less tropical (even though Disenta leans more this way too). Spicy nose with that oak hit, but the palate is zippy, tingly with peppercorn. Hint of pineapple, but not heavy or cloying. Finishes long with good acid structure to hold that (too much?) new oak.
I passed this year, but I wouldn’t be upset to have a couple of these for this type of pairing.
