TN: 2020 Château Lilian Ladouys (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe)

  • 2020 Château Lilian Ladouys - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe (9/24/2023)
Night 1: PnP, medium ruby in the glass. Expressive nose of smoked meat, dark red fruits, blueberry, blackberry, some cedar, cigar box. Bright and tart acidity plays on the tongue until a dose of oak slaps the taste out of my mouth. This recedes with air, and it evolves into a decent quaff.
Night 2: The nose is more muted, but tastewise it's a fuller wine. The berries and cherries are more prominent, as is cocoa, tobacco, and the soft tannins on the finish. A much better wine on Night 2, this probably would have benefitted from a brief decant on Night 1.

I had a 1996 recently that was drinking well. This wine can age.

@Phil_T_r_o_t_t_e_r it was your mention of the 96 inspired me to pull this. 24 year difference but what the hell. I’ll let my 19s and 20s sleep a bit longer.
