TN: 2019 Smith Haut Lafite Le Petit

Popped and poured (a brief decant would’ve been a better idea). Inky purple with a pretty nose of violet, crushed plum and cedar notes. Nice ripeness with the dark fruits taking prominence along with a sweet tobacco note a slightly chalky finish. Tannins seemed a bit grippy to me, but they mellowed out significantly with food. Solid value.

Revisited tonight. Fruit less prominent but the tannins are much softer. Still quite nice.
I always have a tough time with Bordeaux. I tend to mistakenly think things are ready sooner than they really are. It’s pleasantly ripe, but a bit tannic on the back end (imho). I think it’s perfectly fine to enjoy now but a bit of air time would be a good idea. It was quite tasty with the shepherd’s pie I made. I found it much more enjoyable with food than on its own.
Hope this was somewhat helpful
