2018 Bizot Vosne Romanee 1er Elise Fermouche - 398 bottles produced. Bizot’s ultra small cuvee of Elise Fermouche is only made in certain vintages. It’s actually one of their two Echezeaux plots - Les Treux and Les Orveaux lieux dits, but for commercial reasons is not labeled Echezeaux. Most vintages they’ll combine the two Echezeaux plots together but in certain vintages they’ll bottle the Les Treux under this particular label.
I know I joke about Bizot pretty often, but thought I’d pull this bottle as one of my contributions for @lapaulee Gala Dinner this year. @victoorious and @pavlovich.wine were with me when I was decanting this wine earlier in the day. I gotta say, we were all pretty surprised (in a good way) how dense and mouthfilling the wine was. Really all encompassing saturation of weighty resplendent fruit. Chalk full of broad dark fruit that’s show a bit of the ripeness of the vintage but that ripeness seems to add great length and depth. There’s a clear bit of minerality along with that dark fruit that creates energy to give the wine vibrancy. This will most likely be a really great wine as time winds through and adds complexity with age into that incredible amount of material.
