TN: 2018 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre Rodnick Farm

I can’t believe that I had not previously opened one of these, but CellarTracker is always right, so first bottle from the four I purchased on release. Still youthfully prickly on release, it took a good two hours to round into form. Rich in fruit expression, and bright with orange zest acidity, it lifts the darkness of reality to a higher plane of bright sunlight and salty air. Grandma made a strawberry rhubarb pie. The sweetness and tartness balance each other, and welcome the cup of tea next to the empty plate. The open windows let in the evening breeze off the water - ocean side, not bay side.

David,
Perhaps, you remember Larry Meehan who posted on several wine forums over the years. He wrote what I consider to be the greatest tasting note I ever read:

"NV Toffoli Prosecco ($10-12)

I had just finished shopping at Trader Joe’s for my weekly pantry
maintenance, when I saw a fifty-ish man in a floral print shirt, Dockers
and old loafers hop up on the back of his cart. He proceeded to ride
along the gentle slope right to his car. Following his example (and much
to three year old Michael’s delight) I did the same. Just that bit of
breeze and fun on a hot, muggy day made me feel refreshed. The fellow
shot me a knowing smile and drove off. It was a brief encounter, but it
still makes me happy. I should do that more often.

With your note here, you are very close; maybe, even better.
Thanks for the effort.
Best, Jim

Thank you Jim.

When I was drinking the wine I felt like I was sitting in my grandparents’ house on Cape Cod.

Yep, it’s how you “felt” that was communicated - IMO, the true measure of the experience.

Jim, I hope you enjoy this. I lived in Hudson for 16 years, and knew Larry fairly well. Did a few tastings with him.

His niece was the goalie on my daughter’s soccer team and she played D-1 at Indiana U and then George Mason (I think).

Larry’s been the boys volleyball coach there for a pretty long time.

Hudson lost in the state semifinals this year to Moeller.

David- This is beautiful. Thank you!

To me, this is was all of this wine “stuff” is really about- It is a chance to create time travel that we experience not on a physical or even visual level- but on the deepest emotional / sensorial level. When it hits-It brings us to back to our spirit’s home.

Absolutely.

Thanksgiving tradition to have @H_Wallace_Jr wine on the table. Got into the Rodnick last night. EWCY for today. Not much to add to David’s evocative note. Wine remains in a great place. Hardy’s touch of a contemplative and complex wine that is also joyous. And Serious mourvedre vibes.

Happy Thanksgiving. all.
