TN: 2018 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre Old Vine Evangelho Vineyard

  • 2018 Dirty and Rowdy Mourvèdre Old Vine Evangelho Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Contra Costa County (6/11/2021)
13.5% abv. Medium ruby, very aromatic. Ripe raspberry, rose hips, mint, white pepper, Christmas spice and blue fruit. Just delicious with terrific balance and poise. Fabulous now and over the next several years. Winner! (94 pts.)

Hardy’s best wine year after year IMO.

Who’s best wine isn’t their Evangelho? [scratch.gif]

We don’t often agree, but I’ll give you that one.

Exception that proves the rule, and it’s not a regular item.

Exception yes…I believe it used to be regular? Either way I hope it will be again (for the record, I am firmly in agreement that this is Hardy’s best wine, especially now that the Rosewood carignan is no more)

I don’t judge wines by their cover but that is a cool looking label.

I said that a bit tongue in cheek, but not entirely.

I was also tasing a Desire Lines ‘18 Evangelho tonight, also outstanding. It has been really gratifying for me to see Evangelho finally getting some long overdue recognition. After what? 130 years?

Thanks Mike and everyone.

That 2018 Evangelho is a special wine for me. The night before picking the 2018 Frank came to me in a dream- He walked me to my block, pointed at one of the Mourvèdre vines and said “Don’t fck this up”.

No pressure
