TN: 2018 Château Lanessan (France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc)

That’s consistent with some other info on the Lanessan site.

Well, the information that Boissenot is their oenologue is consistent. Here is a list of other chateaus he consults as: Lafite
Margaux
Latour
Mouton
Leoville Las Cases
Leoville Barton
Ducru Beaucaillou
Montrose
Pichon Baron
Pichon Comtesse
Cos d’Estournel
Brane Cantenac
Rauzan Segla
Calon Segur
Beychevelle
Kirwan

Note the presence of three first growths. I don’t keep up with all of these properties, or even most. But it doesn’t sound like a Bouard list.

Thanks David. Just received my bottles today. I’ll check in soon when there is a bbq opportunity, don’t think it’l match well with salade nicoise or any other light summer foods

Well that’s pretty serious, and also chateaux which are pretty traditional in style right? Your reference to Bouard is that he is more a modernist?

Yeah, Bouard is regarded with near Rolland level scorn around here.

I don’t think he’s that terrible, but I think Alfert has a price on his head.

He’s No. 2 in my bullseye!!!

I finished a bottle of the 2019 last night. It had been opened two days before with a glass or two consumed and recorked. The wine showed improvement with this bit of air and the last glass was the best.

Side note; Total Wine has the 2020 listed for just $20 but they’re out of stock so I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

I had the 16 last night and it was rocking. Easily tasted like a wine 2x or 3x the price.

Yes, Bouard has that reputation.

Bouard was involved in some form or another I think with 2015 and 2016 at least. Wish we had more clarity on that.

What difference does it make at this point? Just try the wines and see if you like them or not.

I’ve tried multiple bottles of 15 and 16. The 2014 vintage, pre-Bouard, is the one to load up on.

I like the 2015 and 2018. Haven’t had the 2016.

Perhaps some of the current Lanessan wines are not to your admittedly particular taste, but that isn’t a litmus test for the rest of the wine community.

I had 2016 last night and didn’t think there was anything spoofy about it. Different strokes :man_shrugging:

Agree 100%. I’ve always admitted my palate is clunky.

FWIW, Eric Boissenot consults almost every top Left Bank wine and perhaps 100 smaller growers in the Medoc as did his father before him.

hmm didn’t know that Bouard was also from that modern school… I have a case of Fleur de Bouard '15 which I have not tried yet. Bought that one purely on scores, not on reviews. (young and ignorant back then;-)).

Here Robert and I disagree.

Worst

  1. Dererencourt
  2. Rolland

Largish gap

  1. Bouard.

Jeff, what does it mean then to “consult?” Seems to me that it would be exceptionally difficult to have any meaningful input on “every top Left Bank wine and perhaps 100 smaller growers in the Medoc,” even if you had an inexhaustible supply of meth.

Ha! They just drive by the vineyards in their Maybachs and flick pixie dust on them.

Even if the guy is this gifted, what are you really getting if everyone else uses him.
