Here we have a good example why 2017 is such an outstanding vintage for German Riesling. Fair to say a lot of people see this differently when I look at the TNs via cellartracker. Anyway I love the purity&high acidity&mineral-drive of these cool vintages.
2017 Keller „von der Fels“
Perfect TN by my friend Michael Quentel from 2023 via cellartracker.
„Insanely good “von der Fels”. Expressive, powerful, vibrant and fine spicy Riesling fruit. On the palate a little thunder, vibrant, powerful, athletic almost. Good acidity, wet stones, citrus zest and herbaceousness, lemon verbena and lemon balm, a touch of thyme. The cool 2017 vintage is still young in the glass and has potential for another decade. What a wine for around 20 euros.“
Even on Day 3 still such pure&crisp&mineral and these flavors mentioned above. Clearly Kirchspiel-driven and of course combined with a very high acidity.
Best in 5-10 years.

Thanks for the note! it reminds me that von der Fels really needs time, I don’t think I have 2017 left but the last 2018 I opened like a year ago was also screaming for more cellar time! Did you taste younger years recently and if so, any vintage that would be drinking more generous now?
I had the 2017 a couple of years back and really enjoyed it!

in general „von der Fels“ is great at every stage. 2024 is quite impressive. 2023 was mind-blowing and for me one of the best ever made.
2016 was wonderful a few months ago and 2018 I will open soon.
My method is that I drink 1-2-3 bottles in the first year, then I put the rest in the cellar for 8-10 years or even longer. 2017 is clearly a marathon runner.
BTW, my friend Michael Quentel transported a bottle 2002 Morstein GG from Hamburg to Flörsheim-Dalsheim in march. The bottle was never moved since the release 2003. What a masterpiece of Dry Riesling and we were all stunned. Even Felix Keller had a big smile on his face. It was the first time he had a 2002 Morstein. This again proved that the Keller Rieslings in general have a extraordinary aging potential.
