TN: 2016 Trump Cabernet Sauvignon

Doesn’t sound like one that’s good for the long term.

Heard unconfirmed stories of some people involved dying during its production.

Maybe it’s just going through a dumb phase?

That and, I’m sure, it’s either the weather or the winemaker that gets the blame for this one.

Dumb phase? Not always a stable genius?

Is it anything like Kool Aid? newhere

To be fair, Cabernet Sauvignon in Virginia is a tough gig anyway. Most have a lot of difficulty with it, even in good years. And the best examples charge uncompetitive prices. Stone Tower and RdV do pretty well but the wines are $70+. Early Mountain, Paradise Springs, Linden, Barboursville, etc do ok but the wines are $40.

I’d try a Trump Petit Verdot. That grape actually grows well in Virginia.

You do know it, but it is not your type. So, you thereby do not know it.

KLUUUUUUUUUUGE

My friend, viticultural consultant Lucie Morton, was hired for a day to go to what was then Kluge Vineyard. While there, she was polite and professional, as always. However she later told me that this was marginal terroir for any wine and completely unsuitable for Cabernet Sauvignon. I had a glass once at a restaurant in Charlottesville when it was Kluge, same take as the OP; lean, green and mean. I finished my glass, not quite bad enough to send back. Then-owner Patricia Kluge (ex-soft porn star, high school dropout and member of the University of Virginia Board of Visitors) made some efforts to upgrade, but that ended when she blew through her billion dollar divorce settlement and sold at a distressed price to a real estate developer named Donald Trump. Even at a fire-sale price, it was a poor investment.
