TN: 2016 Saxum G2 Vineyard

  • 2016 Saxum G2 Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles Willow Creek District (7/5/2025)
Decanted 6hrs. For 4th of July, this seemed like a good choice as my previous encounters with a G2 bottling produce ..well fireworks. Pretty much the case with this 16, which explodes with flavors of dark berries and rousing floral elements (especially the nose!). However I love the Mataro and Tannat that add grounded base notes which serve to tame the sheer power of the upfront fruit through an earthy note and quality. It’s a Saxum note, so it has to be said: 15.9 and not a drop of heat that I could detect. Really good pairing with orange braised pork with crispy shallots over jasmine rice. (95 points)

appreciate this. pop and pour or opened for a while before drinking?

Steve, 6hrs decanting time give or take. It was aromatically expressive right out of the gate -

thanks. that’s probably what I would have gone with/presumed.
I have a few of these and looking forward to opening them.

Thanks for the note!
I started buying these because the blend should be in my Saxum wheelhouse (Grenache dominant blend) but I haven’t tried any of them yet. Sounds like they are coming alive!
