TN: 2016 Marchand & Tawse / Pascal Marchand Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes

  • 2016 Marchand & Tawse / Pascal Marchand Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Clos des Ormes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru (12/8/2022)
Since I was making a creamy leek and mushroom pasta for dinner tonight, I felt a rustic, lively Burgundy was a smart pairing, and this wine delivered. Started out shy of fruit, but very spicy, chalky and earthy. It quickly blossomed, the dark fruit emerged, red and black berries, some red apple skin, still a wonderful spicy character - not necessarily baking spices but more 'cooking' spices, white pepper, poultry seasoning, that type of thing. Mouthfeel has that nice weight with satiny softness that is always a pleasure with so many Burgundies. I like the earthy, rocky component to this wine, which really shines in the finish as well. Enjoyable now, but I think the fruit will emerge further with more time.

Way too young syndrome? Wadu I no. Thanks for the check-in. Can’t seem to find drinkable wines from my too many bottles!

I’m a big fan of this wine; I stocked up on the 15. When Marchand tawse did a tasting at wine house with a big portion of their range Jim Knight and I agreed the two best wines of the 15s were this one, Beze, and the gevrey village.

Probably one of the things I miss most about leaving LA were the tastings at wine house which I heard ent just recently restarted; they often had the winemakers there.

I don’t know of these, maybe worth checking out, taking the drive

This Barolo event next month looks pretty legit.

I’ve went to events with Nicolás rossignol, Marchand tawse, arpepe, Arturo graci/salvo foti, barbi, and a bunch of others there.

Um, there might be a slight conflict with that date…something a Berserker might know about…

Haha true
