2016 Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis- Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (3/9/2021)
What a beautiful wine and showing so well right now. A great example of what makes 16 such a special vintage. The nose was so expressive with lots of red cherry, plum and floral notes. Similar notes on the palate that build with terrific presence. The tannins start firm but are very fine and never get in the way of the wine. It finishes with a long finish that leads you back to wanting more. We enjoyed with an Elk Tenderloin and Veal chop and when had with food the tannin really recede and it reaches even new heights. My favorite 2016 so far and a terrific value as well. (95 pts.)
I saw a note recently that this was super shut down so I stashed my six pack away offsite. Now you’re making me want to open one, Fred! Did you decant?
Hi David- we didn’t, opened about 1 hour and then followed another hour. There are a bunch of positive notes on CT so decided to try. I would taste and then perhaps decant but would not over do air. It was excellent on it’s own and with dinner.
