Excellent Chianti producer. Opened an hour before drinking. 2nd time I have had this wine. Dark purple color. Fuller bodied. Earthy with iron and cherry notes. A really nice texture that compliments food very well. 93 points.
I visited in May, 2018. They turned an entire village into a winery. Rada is my favorite part of Chianti and visiting Volpaia was a great experience. I went through 2 cases of the 2015 CCR and a case of the 2016. I wish I could find more of it.
(Disclaimer: we represent Volpaia here in Ontario).
The CCR from Volpaia is one of my favourite wines from Tuscany, full stop. The 2021 is already firing on a number of cylinders as well, so no surprise the 2016 is doing so well ten years on. Never overly extracted or oaky, but a clear step up in weight and intensity as a Riserva should be. Love it.
