TN: 2015 Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville)

2015 Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville (7/4/2026)
In celebration of America's 250th, we let an eagle fly! (17)76% CS, 20% Merlot, 4% CF...decanted for an hour...GORGEOUS florals and spice box on the nose! Fresh crushed wild berries, sandalwood spice, white pepper, cedar box, menthol just mesmerize you with every sniff. Palate pretty tight still...gripping tannins, firm structure...yet has the shade up for you to peek inside. Dark fruit that's fresh and vibrant...red licorice dryness and graphite powder...and those to die for florals and spices translate through the palate...has that classic SE seamlessness and finesse, but still could use a little more age polish to really blow the doors off. Would have thought a slightly smoother ride given the 20% Merlot, so that CS must be a tannic beast in 2015? Not the perfection as the 2010 was last time...but give it a few more years and it will definitely compete! Always special and a true JOY to drink these! +pts (97 points)

Not on the mailing list but I finally did Pony up and bought a bottle of the '23 on the secondary market to cellar. Kind of curious what you think the drinking window is for these. I do plan on living at least another 10 years!

On my death bed - please - go - get - the - Scream - ing - Eag - le…And bring that DRC Richebourg also…

In a related note, has anyone drank the 1997 in the last few years? A friend has a vertical dating from there and I wondered. I think he likes owning more vs. the idea of drinking them.

My sweet spot seems to be 12 to 15yrs on them, but I’ve never had any older. I can’t imagine with the high quality of fruit, and impeccable balance they achieve, that these wines can’t go 30+? Start at 10 min, drink um anytime beyond that WHENEVER you can!:wine_glass:

We drank a 94 in the Spring and it was was fan-tastic. Don’t worry about holding a while

Yes sir. And will summon Ms Kiryu too. Just in case.

I have had different vintages from 5 years to 17 years old. Each has been excellent; each seemed to have lot of years left.
