2015 Pierre Gonon Ardèche Les Iles Feray - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Ardèche (6/30/2025)
Medium full body, dark garnet, but not opaque, just a bit of a lean toward leather. Hmm, starts out with some distinctive funk on the nose, almost a stale tidepool/fishy character. Largely cleans up with air, so give this a good decant. Deep, vibrant dark fruit, boysenberry, strong acidity, some mouthwatering tartness, a background violet note, mulberry, tannins are here more in the mid palate, but the acidity washes them away by the finish, very lively. Quite tasty, would be great with some bbq, pulled pork, brisket, ribs. Not sure how this will age, but at 10 years shows no sign of falling down. Drink or hold. (91 points)

Sounds lovely Alan - both tasty and interesting. I drank a ‘16 5 years ago, and tend to drink these on the young side. A $65 wine that for some reason is now up to the $70s and that I’d buy by the case if available for $50. But then I’d need more cellar space so probably for the best that I just get one bottle a year.

It’s now $100 at my local wine shop in the Bay Area.
This bottle was $30 on release. Price has gotten crazy, but $30 was a good buy back then.

I remember buying the 2009 Gonon St. Joseph for $30. Those were the days…
('21 Les Iles Feray was delicious a couple of months ago, btw. I wish I had a case of that).
