TN: 2014 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montmains

I’m sure you tasted the lineup at vvw every year, my general experience (always exceptions in some vintages) was that Mont Mains was almost always the more taut, mineral wine, Montee was almost always the fleshier, richer, broader wine. Not so many notes on Butteaux or Forets. Kind of surprising that Mont Mains is at the bottom of the hill.

Hope all is well. I had to do a double take this morning on your reply Alan to my post from 4 years ago. I miss the days when you could taste the full Raveneau lineup at VVW and buy what you liked. Now I get 2-3 bottles per vintage.

It was singing when I had it in France last Fall. Sample size of one, 30 minute decant. I found it to be showing exceptionally.

As someone who thinks the '96s are at peak, I have trouble getting my head around that.

Recent CT notes include some ravs at SF Paulee Verticals tasting by BurgundyAl & others. As well as a lot of general joy over the last 9 months. Your mileage may vary, but it’s been showing well of late.

Oh I believe you and others found it delightful. I just sturggle to think of Raveneau as a wine that shows well without significant age.

2014 is such a fabulous Chablis year, it’s hard to think of anything that isn’t showing wonderfully well. that being said, if I actually owned any 2014 Rav, I would have a hard time touching any of them, particularly if it was piled with 04’s, 07’s, or, OMG, 96’s.
