2013 Littorai Pinot Noir Les Larmes- USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley (9/26/2014)
Everything about this wines exudes beauty. Nose of soft spring flowers with strawberries and red raspberries. A mid to light weight wine with tremendous depth. The fruits control the ride; some interesting notes of tea leaf and baking spice. It’s balance is deft. Super interesting mid-palate and the tannins seem to lie just beneath the blanket of red fruits and they are complicated and near-weightless. Acidity just perfect. As food arrived this proves that it is the darling of the table. As this sat it showed more presence and depth. Finish long, true and still fresh and vibrant. Wow. If you own this, consider yourself lucky. (93 pts.)
Thanks for the note. Glad I have some on the way. I opened a bottle of the 2007 Les Larmes recently and it was drinking very well - impeccable balance.
Agreed on Copain, Littorai, Anthill, Rhys Bearwallow. Kutch also (though I think they may have lost their AV sources now - anyone remember?). And for budget bottlings besides Copain Tous Ensemble, look for Navarro Methode L’Ancienne and Donkey and Goat (all bottlings pretty reasonable).
Kutch was working with Savoy that Cliff Lede bought (first $100k/planted acre deal in AV) and ran everyone off but Littori. Many folks making great AVPN that don’t have dirt have been pushed out of the valley in the last few years as bigger out of valley wineries gobble up land. I am glad we have our own estate vineyard for that reason.
OMG a 2013 all ready? This was bottled with in the last couple months I would guess, unless I missed something. Man if its showing as good as you describe now just imaging how good it will be once its recovered fully from bottle shock (6-12 months). Just getting into the '07’s from them now, skipped '08 except rose, and have dabbled in a few of the '09’s that are showing great promise.
No I have not. I usually stick to the AV wines. I will admit I don’t like my wines as old as some, like my wife, but agree the '07’s have a lot of life left in them. I usually get 3-6 of each and start tasting them 3-5 years(based on WB’er and CT noses) in with another year or so in-between opening another one.
