TN: 2013 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese (Germany, Nahe)

2013 Dönnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Nahe (11/26/2014)
This is a delicious young vintage of Kirschheck. It has all the peach and cherry fruit that is there year after year, built on a framework of electric acids and precise focus. I am one to age bottles of Dönnhoff Rieslings (despite the urban legends warning against that), but it will be very hard to do anything other than drink these up ASAP. The wine is just too beautiful right now.

What are your thoughts on 2013 for Donnhoff in general? Compared to prior vintages?

Very small sample so far, but high acidity and good extract. Fine wines.

I think it is a sleeper vintage for some producers, particularly Donnhoff. I tasted a few of them earlier in the year, and found plenty of intensity, great acidity, and the less ripe year really lets the terroir shine through. It’s a saline year, which I love.
