TN: 2013 Ayunta Etna Rosso "Parossismo" (Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC)

A new wine and pleasant surprise for me.

Transparent ruby with beautiful perfume: roses, cherry fruit, some subtle menthol, all with lift and elegance. Supple, light to mid bodied on the palate with sap and density without weight. More roses, cherries, and some cooler aromatic herbs, basil, and subtle menthol. An elegant, deceptively powerful, effortless, beautifully balanced, seamless wine. Serious, yet joyful. I realize this wine is its own creature, but for me, a novice in this region, it seemed like Barbaresco meets Volnay. Nothing really stands out here, everything comes together into a greater whole. Quite long on the back end with balsamic notes. I have very limited experience with Etna Rosso, but this makes me want to change that. I have no idea how this will age, but it seems to have enough structure, fine tannins, and balanced acidity to be something even better in a few years. I will seek out more of these bottles. lovely. 93 (93 pts.)
