TN: 2012 Yves Cuilleron - Syrah Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes "Les Candives" (N. Rhone)

2012 Domaine Yves Cuilleron Syrah Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes Les Candives - France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes (8/17/2013)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over a couple hours –

NOSE: smells very ripe, with a strong cigar spice/stemmy note; reminds me of a St. Joseph; non-descript “dark” fruits.

BODY: magenta-violet color of medium-deep depth; medium bodied (lighter than I expected)

TASTE: fine tannin provides a little grip on the palate; stemmy/green peppercorn note; savory; 12% alc. is not noticeable; adequate acidity; I like this, but prefer the cheaper “vignes d’à côté” bottling from this producer.

I remember posting notes on the 09 vintage if this wine, also likening it to a St Joseph. Great QPR - might even open another bottle tonight as a result of reviewing my notes on it, and yours on the 12

That '09 was the best of the ‘09-‘10’-11’-'12 four year span, imo. Each vintage has delivered fantastic QPR. That '09, though … {sigh} … easily one of the 10 best QPR’s I’ve ever found.

Like the '07 Gonon Saint Joseph being the best of the 4 vintages I’ve had…and there is none left in the US
