TN: 2012 Windy Oaks Estate Pinot Noir Terra Narro Schultze Family Vineyard

  • 2012 Windy Oaks Estate Pinot Noir Terra Narro Schultze Family Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (5/5/2019)
Picked this up in an auction lot at Falltacular. Light transparent cranberry color, nose of mushrooms and cotton candy. Zippy red fruit, cranberry and blood orange really mix well. Lively mid-palate, juicy, with a hint of garrigue, maybe pine needle, reminiscent of some Rivers Marie Occidental fruit but lighter. Easy drinking, really enjoyable once the cellar chill wears off, no noticeable alcohol. Very food friendly, mark me as a fan. CT drinking window is way off on this one.

Thanks for the post. I had a delicious 2016 Windy Oaks whole cluster pinot last week in Santa Cruz. Quite savory, spicey with restrained fruit, very dark color. Too bad about their wine club, though. Looks like you have to commit to quarterly purchases without knowing exactly what they will send. The other standouts for me were the Big Basin Chardonnay Coastview Vineyard Gabalin Mountain 2016 (not quite in the SCM AVA, but close at a few miles east of Monterey) and the 2015 Domaine Eden Chard.
